THE MAGIC OF WINTER
photos by Adrienne Lubbe
The
Magic of WINTER serves up some of the best conditions for great
outdoor photography. It offers mist, frost, ice, snow, dust, smoke
and wind. The mist makes your photos moody and hides all the visual
chaos you would normally find in the photos. Windy days blow dust
into the atmosphere which create spectacular sunsets. Close ups of
frost and ice show the delicate structure of the ice crystals.
Some
problem solving tips for taking photos in the winter:
·
Condensation can occur on the camera lens and view finder if the
temperature of the camera is warmer than the surrounding climatic
conditions. One needs to get the camera temperature to equalize to
the surrounding temperature by leaving it out of its bag so that it
is cold to start off with.
·
The
colder the temperature the faster the batteries lose their power.
Keep a spare battery in a pocket near your body so that it can
remain warm.
·
Wear
gloves (even those with the tips cut off) so that your fingers are
warm for ease of operating.
·
Wear good
hiking shoes to prevent slipping in icy conditions and to keep you
feet warm.
