CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS FOR MARCH: See class schedule here

Take 3 circles: 1 – 6 March

Take 3 circles, cut them in half, add an embellishment and your page will be finished in a flash. So bring another set of photos! Photos can be of any theme, 4 horizontal jumbos and 2 vertical jumbos. If you have really small subjects in 6 photos, these can be used as round embellishments as well.

Masking Tape: 6 March

Can you believe that the old fashioned household painter’s tape has been around since the 1920’s? It is made from thin and easy to tear paper and this makes it an ideal as a scrapping embellishment. We will be making a frame around your focal point photo with masking tape.  This theme lends itself to rougher, earthier type photos. The focal point photo can be an enlargement 13 x 18 cm together with 4 – 6 other supporting photos.

b‘Doing Double Designs’ will be using 3 photos for March because it is the 3rd month.

·         3V

·         2H; 1V

·         2V; 1H

·         2V; 1 EH 13 x 18cm

·         2H; 1 EH 20x 25cm

Calendar Girls: 27 March

Tripple tags: 29 March – 1st April

A blast from the past. Every now and then I will repeat a class from way back when that has a great design principle. Make a triple tag, stitched together with binding. A great way to add little photos to your page, or certificates reduced in size, or travel tickets. Bring any set of photo together with embellishments to class.

LEGEND:

V = Vertical jumbo photos

H = Horizontal jumbo photos

C = Either vertical or horizontal photos which can be cropped into a smaller shape

EV = Enlargement Vertical (with individualized sizes in cm)

EH = Enlargement Horizontal (with individualized sizes in cm)

The above dates are for the classes being presented by Adrienne Lubbe

But these are also worth going back to....

7g (7gypsies) Celebrate:  This class is a must. Celebrate a birthday or anniversary. Bring 6 – 7 photos that can be cropped smaller.

@@@ What are you good @? What are you doing @? What function are you @? Where are you @? If your photos answer any of these

questions this class is for you. Bring any set of photos that can answer the above questions.

Advent Calendar:  End your annual album with something a little different like a spectacular advent calendar or make the calendar as a super gift. This makes a single page where you practice craft knife and journaling skills. (All your Christmas traditions and they are so easy to journal about!) Bring with left over Christmas bits and pieces like stickers and rub-ons. Even small little photos can be added.

Alcohol Inks: Using a Tim Holtz technique and a Becky Higgins layout, create a stunning double page layout using 4 horizontal and 2 vertical photos.

Arrowhead Page: This page can be used with any type of photo, as it is very versatile. Exciting use of colour in this class.

Arrow Routes: Add an arrow to your page to highlight a focal point photo or create some movement on the page. Any selection of photos will do.

Beading Basics: Learn about how to use beads in your scrapbooks. Christmas, party, or girls themes would work well for this class

Between the lines:  Instead of reading between the lines you are going to write between the lines! Bring any selection of photos.

Between the Photos: The link between the photos is always a title. Bring 6 horizontal OR 4 horizontal and 3 vertical photos. Any theme of photos will work.

Big Brackets:  One of the hottest trends in scrapping right now – stamp them, paint them or stick them around photos, journaling or titles.

Big and Small:

The antonym of big is small, and this works so well in this layout showing how successful contrasts in sizes can be. This layout requires 1 vertical enlargement 15 x 20cm and 6 vertical jumbo photos that can be cropped narrow to about 6cm in width. Any theme of photo will work.

Black & White: Bring along your black and white photos (modern or heritage), or use a B&W theme.

Block Border: A great page basic page to use with any type of photo, especially those without a dominant theme. A simple, but very effective way to add a paper design to your page. Good for all types of photos.

Board walk: Cover your background paper with boards … boards of paper, inked and pinned down. Use an A5 vertical enlargement plus 5 vertical jumbos on any theme (or whatever you have).

Bracket shaped page: Bracket shaped pages bring in a new, funky design element to scrapbooking these days.  Bring a variety of about 6 photos that can fit in with any theme. This paper is only available in a set colour scheme at this stage: Turquoise, cream, red, olive green and a touch of brown.

Brave Heart:  Well you have to be brave to use a heart this size on your page! The theme of photos can be anything you love, from a person to a place, or flowers, dogs, chocolate, gardening, sport etc. You can use an enlargement of 15 x 20cm or even 20 x 25 cm (which can be cropped down) plus about 5 – 6 horizontal photos.

Briefcase:

Back to school this week with a briefcase in hand. Suitable for 4 horizontal enlargements up to 20 x 25cm in size, otherwise a selection of smaller school photos would be great. If you don’t have school photos, change it into a travelling briefcase and use travel photos.

Bread tags:

Bread… the staff of life. Time and dates…ever present. Photos…anything goes. You had better start collecting those white tags that seal a loaf of bread!

Bring a blouse: Have you ever looked at an outfit or piece of material and thought that it would make a good colour scheme or design for a page layout. Well bring it with, together with some photos and we will create a page around it.

Bumping out: This is a technique where we use a template that is slightly too small for the subject, and rather that cutting a protrusion off we "bump it out". Any photos will work

Butted up:

A good, basic design where two ends of paper will run head to head into each other. Any theme will work.

·         6V

·         4V, 1H

·         Eh 13 x 18, 3 C

Card Templates: We return to use the small card templates with lots of small 3D embellishments. An excellent way to group your embellishments without a "Sneeze" effect on the page. Any theme of photos. A collecting of memorabilia is used to create this page. It must be fairly small, such a buttons, badges, flies, bits of lace etc. Memorabilia to suit your photos is essential.

Chipboard buttons:  Buttons … well they go with anything! Cover beautiful big buttons with paper or fabric to create a co-ordinated once off embellishment for your page. Lots of vertical photos and a few horizontals will work well.

Christmas time / Gift Bag Page: Christmas is a time for gifts and gifts are usually beautifully wrapped. Why not use that gift bag on your page? This is the perfect class for showcasing your photos of the unwrapping of gifts. If you don’t want to make a Christmas Page, make any other theme where you would have gifts e.g. a birthday. Also an excellent way to use shopping bags collected on overseas travels. YOU MUST BRING YOUR OWN GIFT BAG OF A SUITABLE SIZE FOR A 12 X 12” PAGE. Photos - 3 horizontal and 3 vertical jumbos plus 1 other.

Cork: A great material to add to your pages for a rougher look. Choose outdoor/boy/rough type photos.

Counting Life: 2This month while you are thinking numbers make a note of them.  If you have been married for X number of years, list how many houses have you lived in, how many cars have you driven, how many children, pets, jobs, holidays etc. have you been on. Date Dial

Stamp a dial on shades of coloured paper to make about a 10cm dial as the focal point of your page. You need a set of photos for which you know the specific date. A set of 3 horizontal and 3 vertical jumbo photos will work well or alternatively a set of 12 photos that can be cropped.

Deluxe Envelopes: Amazing ideas with a variety of shapes – total deluxe!

Diamond Folds: A paper folding technique that can work for a wide range of photos. Bring 7 –10 photos. Good for weddings, heritage, Ethnic themes. Please bring a craft knife, steel ruler and cutting board for this class.

Die Cut Pages:  These beautiful, pretty pages come in a variety of shapes. They tend to be available in greens, pinks and blues. Photos you will need are 3 vertical and 2 horizontal jumbos or bring any set of photos. Embellish with ribbons, rub-ons and all things pretty.

Double Tear: Torn paper always creates a rough, rustic texture, so this page will be more suitable for photos of outdoors, boys, fishing, or snow. Bring any set of photos that could suit the rough texture.

Dymo Tape: A fast and easy way to add journaling to your page. Brilliant ideas to make a page with a difference.

Easy patterns: Page one: 1 vertical enlargement or 2 horizontal jumbos; 3 horizontals; 2 verticals that can be cropped and three other photos suitable for cropping.

Page two: 3 horizontals and 3 verticals Page three: 6 – 8 horizontals suitable for cropping.

With easy patterns, one uses similar paper on all three of the pages, so using photos from different albums would be an advantage

Eclectic Letters:  Use up all your odd lettering in one title. Be environmentally friendly! Bring any selection of photos plus all your lettering.

Enlarge your horizons: Enlarged photos are quite difficult to work with because they take up the whole page and then what can you do? Bring an enlargement and a few extra photos to complement it and enlarge your horizons.

Felt Focus: Felt: A matted cloth made from fibre (usually wool) that does not fray and that makes it great for scrapbooking. You can cut it into any shape, hand stitch it and add buttons or beads. Most of the pre-cut felt is in the form of flowers or Christmas decorations. Bring any selection of photos.

Fibonacci:  Fibonacci, an Italian mathematician, worked out a sequence of numbering that creates a spiral and that is found throughout nature. Now you have the opportunity to use this mathematical numbering system to create a scrapbook page. You need to have photos specially printed to complete the spiral. You will need one photo printed 20 x 25cm (and this will be cropped down to a 16,5cm square) and to complete the second page you need an A4 size photo 20 x 30cm landscape orientation (although this second enlargement is optional and can be replaced with 4 jumbo sized photos). You will also need 4 other jumbo sized photos.

Five plus two: Sounds like Maths? Might be a little like maths, but way more simple, with five horizontal photos and two vertical.

Foam Stamps: Foam stamps are hot!! Try out my great variety of letter styles and other doo-dads.

Framed Pages: For this you need a photo that requires special attention, one enlargement or even a jumbo sized, vertical photo. You can use smaller detail photos around the sides and then embellishments such as stickers, die cuts etc. are used to complete the page. Two horizontal photos can be used on the facing page to complete the double page spread.

Folded matting: A slight challenge to do something different with your matting. Uses eyelets, brads or stitching. Any photos will work.

Folded 12 X 12:  Got lots of bits and pieces of memorabilia or photos that need a home? This page will be their home. Bring it all with you!

Four Panels: This page works well with 4 vertical photos, but if you don’t have verticals, then we use horizontals and verticals mixed. A good basic page that can be used over and over again.

Folio Clasps: Need to know how to make that figure of eight closure used on envelopes and documents? Come to this class to find out just how easy they are to make and how versatile they are to use.

From a Corner: So simple but yet so effective. A patterned paper effect that creates an unusual focal point on the page and you all have the template at home – a saucer!

Geometric circles:

Well aren’t all circles geometric? Yes, but these circles are even more so! There are a few options to choose from.

   -  Using 4 jumbos photos (any shape) and 3 verticals.

   -  Using 3 – 4 horizontal and 3 vertical photos.

   -  Using 1 A5 vertical enlargement plus other various complementary photos.

Giant Letters: Fill your whole page with one letter. Bring an assortment of photos, as the subjects of your photo should be slightly smaller.

Going ‘round in circles: Use circles in the design of a fun creative layout.

Gold Leaf Foiling: A wonderful (although a little fiddly) technique to change those ordinary embellishments into extra ordinary works of art. Make special titles for celebrations such as Christmas, New Year, weddings and more.

Gradual buttons: Gradual, 1. Taking place by degrees, 2. Slowly progressive 3. Not rapid, steep or abrupt....  used with any theme of photos makes for a stunning page. Bring 5 x 8cm square photos plus 1 jumbo.

Half Circle Ends:

Half circle ends is a simple idea that makes a great page. You’ll say to yourself why didn’t I think of that before?? Try these four jumbo photo options:

#1: 8 horizontal, 1 vertical jumbo

#2: 1 vertical enlargement 15 x 20cm, 3 that can be cropped small, 3 vertical

#3: 4 vertical

#4: 2 horizontal, 1 vertical

Haiku:     Bring 4 horizontals and 2 verticals or whatever you fancy.

Think out of the box                               Talk about nature

Embellish with flair                                 Create works of art

Horizontalis: Sounds like a Biology class? No way - it is much simpler… just bring 9 horizontal photos.

It’s About Time: Using elements of time to enhance your layouts. Great for your holidays, birthdays or celebrating a specific event, but will suit any photos.

In Parenthesis:

Parenthesis means {Marked off by Brackets}, so we will be using an enlarged photo EV 15cm x 20cm or 25cm {Marked off by Brackets}, plus 2 x V and 1 x H. Once again any theme will work.

In Photo Title: For this class it is best to have an enlargement or panoramic of a photo where you could use larger letter stencils without it cutting through a face. Scenery type photos work well or a photo where there is space above/below the subject in order to do the lettering there. N.B. PLEASE BRING A CRAFT KNIFE AND CUTTING BOARD.If you would like to make your page more 3d then you will also need pop dots. (3D Glue or 3M double sided tape)

In stitch’z: Occupational therapy is the theme of this class because easy hand stitching is what you will be doing. There are templates to help you and come in words (friends; family; girls; boy words) flowers, hearts or arrows or easy borders. Bring 6-8 photos of mixed orientation and any theme.

In the middle of nowhere: Place a vertical title ‘In the middle of nowhere’; add 4 photos and a bit of journaling. How simple is that?

Invisible Grid:

Some photos are there – others are not – you leave a space and imagine!  Bring 2 or 3 vertical / 2 or 3 horizontal jumbos plus lots of other photos (up to 15 - 20) that can be cropped to 5cm square.

Jumpstart January:

Jumpstart January with a basic double page layout using 2 verticals, 3 horizontals and 2 other photos that can be cropped. A nice big title, a bit of journaling, a few embellishments and you will be well away to getting your first page of the New Year done.

Kaleidoscope: A challenging, but very exciting technique, which requires accuracy and a little patience, but creates a wonderful finished effect that reminds one of the kaleidoscopes of our youth. Special photo printing is required. Choose a photo that shows definite lines and colours. Have it printed 4 times in one direction and 4 times as a mirror image. DO NOT USE YOUR ORIGINAL PRINT, AS IT WILL HAVE DIFFERENT COLOUR SETTINGS TO THE NEW PRINTS.

KI Christmas: Using a stunning new paper range and embellishments, bring your Christmas photos for an accessorized layout. (other themes too)

Lace Up Side Pocket:

Got lots of things to store on you page? Make this side pocket with eyelets and lace ups that will take care of your storage problems. You will make a large pocket so that it can store bigger pieces of memorabilia or photos. Photos can be any theme which supports the memorabilia.

Photos for L.H. page EH25 x 20 and C4. For the pocket 3H photos or larger photos or memorabilia.

Letter Splits:

‘Split’ could mean: opening; divided; broken up; separate. So I could have called this class ‘Open Letters’; ‘Divided Letters’; ‘Broken up Letters’ or ‘Separate letters’. It is all of the above and more.  Bring any set of photos.

Library Cards: Great inspiration from the place of books, as inspiration in your own scrapbook.

Lining it up: You could make a whole album using this technique. Bring lots of photos for your theme. If they are small you can get in as many as 14.

Lollipop borders:

Use multiple layers of scallop papers to give your layout quite a fun look. Great for kids, Disney, travel, baby.

·         3 photos either vertical or horizontal together with lots of little embellishments.

·         6 – 8 horizontals

Long Tab: Make ‘the connection’ with a long tab which will be embellished with 3 small photos that can be cropped to 5 or 6cm2. Bring at least 4 other supporting photos all horizontal, or one vertical enlargement 15 x 20cm and 2 horizontals. There is place for a journaling list which could otherwise be replaced with a vertical photo.

Louvre windows: A unique paper folding technique to make a louvre window as a backing for your photos. Works well with large or panoramic photos as well as any other photo selection.

Lovely Layers: Layer you paper and stitch into place by machine for a unique look. Bring at least 6 to 8 photos with smaller subjects as you will need to crop them down for this layout.

MM tags:

Details … the more I get into photography the more I want to see the details and often that leaves you with small little things in a large photo. Crop 11 small things/features/parts of… down to 5cm x 5cm square. Keep your best photo full size for the opposite page, and use scraps of paper to fill your Making Memories Tags.

Masks:

‘Using the positive to create the negative’ - does this sound bad? It’s not at all. It is a super easy way to create your own patterned paper in your choice of colour in 5 seconds flat. Photos required:

·         4 horizontal jumbos and 1 vertical

·         2 horizontal/A5 vertical enlargement and 3 vertical jumbos

·         12 photos 5 x 5 cm

·         A mixture of 4 -5 jumbos

Matchbooks: Make and embellish your own matchbook on your page for mini photos or for journaling.

Monograms: Experiment with the exciting trend of using one large letter on your page. Paint and stamping will enrich your pages and make them a cut above the rest. Any theme of photos.

Micro beads: Very tiny beads without holes are used to create a 3D effect on your page. Great for Celebrations (New Year or weddings), water (bath, sea or pool) or snowy themes

Middle of the Page Tearing: For this class you need 4 horizontal photos and two vertical photos. Paper tearing is the main technique used. Any theme will work.

Mini Envelopes: Embellish you pages with the tiniest little envelopes. Bring you template with from National Scrapbooking day. Works well with most types of photos, but especially with Heritage.

Mitred corner: Mitre, n. Joint at angle of 90 degrees such that the line of junction bisects it at 45 degrees. Bring a) 4 vertical and 2 horizontal photos or b) one A5 vertical enlargement plus 7 other smaller photos.

Mitred Frames: How many of you have albums without a front and/or back page? This is your opportunity to rectify the problem. Make a single page used a Mitred frame. Bring 1 – 3 jumbo photos that can be used together with the frame and a title.

Morse Code

Dots and dashes – that’s what it’s all about. Bring a series of ALL HORIZONTAL PHOTOS: 4 horizontal jumbos and then 8 smaller horizontal photos 7,5cm wide by 5cm high.

Mosaics: Scenery type photos that can be cut into squares and placed on the page to make a mosaic would work well. People also work well although you have to be careful not to cut faces up. Bring 8 – 10 photos. A more advanced class, but very rewarding.

Narrow Scallops:

The dictionary definition of

Scall’op, noun & verb; An ornamental edging cut in material (Bazzill) in imitation of the bivalve mollusc. So you need

·         2 pieces of narrow scallop card, another die-cut page and three horizontal photos or

·         5 horizontal and 1 vertical jumbo plus 1 narrow scallop or

·         4 horizontal jumbos and 2 narrow scallops or

·         Can’t decide?? Bring a whole set of photos with at least one vertical

Negative strips: Use small to medium photos in transparency type negatives. A great way to use up the old fashioned small photos. Any theme will work.

Notebooks:

A notebook could be defined as a small book in which to write, containing blank or lined pages. If you tore them out and placed them on a Scrapbook page, you would get a ruffled look from the tearing. So we are going to mimic a notebook on our pages and write a few notes about our 8 – 10 photos.

Note-lets: Have you ever received a note from someone and thought that it was really worth saving because the card was so pretty? Well we are going to do just that. Put a note on a page with a selection of photos and a bit of journaling, using colour co-ordinated "note-lets" and envelopes from Bazzill.

One word many times: Using computer techniques create a fun and easy page with any photos.

Page Breaks:

A revamp of the old ‘Wainscoting page’ and instead of using a “wooden strip” to divide the page into two, we will be using laser cut words and strips. Number of photos required? 6-8 either horizontal or vertical.

Paper Weaving: Any theme of photo can work in this more challenging class. It is a good opportunity for a more masculine page to be made, but works just as well for feminine pages, travel pages or whatever.

Parcel page: One enlarged photo (jumbo and larger) works very well on one side of the double page with smaller photos on the other side. A little more advanced in design concept, as you work with 4 different patterned papers and fibres to tie the parcel page all together.

Paper Hinges: This is a simplified version of a page designed by Wilna Furstenburg using a prong fastener and paper hinges. You need to bring at least 12 – 15 photos to complete this double page spread.

Pedestal Page:

The definition of a ‘pedestal’ means to use a base to support a construction. Your base will be built from layered pieces of paper and embellishments supporting a structure of photographs. You need about 6 jumbo photos (a mixture of vertical and horizontal) to complete the double page.

Photo Flips: Got too many photos of one scene? This is the class for you. Layer your photos onto one page using hinges, or use hinges elsewhere on your page.

Photo Highlights:

A combination of black and white photos with touches of colour. (Just like you see it in the digital versions). YOU NEED TO PRINT ONE PHOTO TWICE – once in black and white and once in colour. An enlargement of 13 – 18 cm OR 15cm - 2cm will highlight this technique very well. Print the enlargement in both colour and black and white and remember, they need to both be the same size.  Bring 3 - 5 other photos (colour or black and white) to complete the page.

It is also an excellent way to use the new sticker ribbons.

Poetry Journaling: Now don’t be put off by the word journaling! This is a fun way to write about your loved ones. It is not difficult as you get step-by-step guidance through the whole process. Anyone can manage to do it and you do not need to do any preparation, just bring a photo/s of the person about whom you are writing the poem. We then take your journaling and create a wonderful plaque using metal, scrabble and computer lettering.

Popsicle Sticks:

Those little wooden sticks that you get with your rub-ons can be put to good use on a scrapping page. The use of earthy types of photos would be ideal because the sticks are made from wood. They wood also work well for ice-cream, train rides or beach photos. Number of photos required:
